Is it a coincidence that the symbols and words chosen seem diametrically opposed to God? I honestly don’t know, but am highly suspicious. Consider the word PRIDE used as a collective thought regarding the gay community. The Bible never lifts PRIDE as something desirable. Instead, the preferred word is HUMILITY. In fact, pride led to a third of the angels being evicted from heaven (ref. Isaiah 14:12-15 and Revelation 12:7-12). Here are a few of the related biblical passages:
Now consider the RAINBOW symbol. Today its intentionality is converted to represent the ever expanding diversity of all kinds. Originally, the RAINBOW was created to remind God of His promise to the earth after the Great Flood (ref. Genesis 9:1-17). After water completely covered the earth, destroying all land-based life, God then caused the waters to recede and dry land to appear. Noah and seven other survivors were instructed to replenish the earth. It is here, in the history of mankind, that God introduces us to the first ever RAINBOW after the first ever RAIN. Listen to God’s words, …
“[11] And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. [12] And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: [13] I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. [14] And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: [15] And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.[16] And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. [17] And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.”
To all the hijackers, I declare, “Give me back my RAINBOW!” Keep the word PRIDE if you like. In fact, if I were to get really petty, I could also declare, “Give me back my month!” June is my birth month. Also, June is the month we recognize Juneteeth and the state in the Union that was the last holdover to informing its enslaved population that they were now free.
Let me be clear. I don’t hate gays and lesbians, and other gender persuasions. I do not embrace or celebrate the choice of lifestyles that violates biblical commands (e.g, murder, robbery, sexual immorality, …). I do champion God’s given symbols and words/concepts that communicate His sovereignty.
My position is simply this. On behalf of likeminded people, I demand, “Give me back my rainbow!” It is not yours to appropriate. It is not yours to redefine. I lay claim to it, because of its original intent. I denounce its use for any other purpose. Give It Back!
