Theresa Merritt-Watson is a community leader dedicated to supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and African American churches. She served as the president of the lay organization for St. Paul AME Church and the Operations and Sales Director for Truth Teaching Ministries, a nonprofit organization that helps pastors strengthen their congregation and community relationship.
Theresa is a graduate of Shaw University and the owner of Synergy Training Solutions, a company advocating for HBCUs and HBCUs students by raising awareness, providing access to resources, and helping students apply for scholarships. In addition to Synergy Training Solutions, Theresa has owned several other companies: Coalesce Beauty, Young Parent Institute, and the Watson Group. She has worked as a Multicultural Diversity trainer and facilitator for George Mason University and Georgetown University.
She is the author of A Guide for Teenage Parents and she is the very proud mother of six dynamic children (Rachael, Larry, Isa, Jessica, Daniel, and Doval). She was elected to serve on the Democratic Party North Carolina State Executive Committee. Theresa also has served on the local Habitat for Humanity Board, Sustainable Chapel Hill, and Board of Adjustment for the town of Chapel Hill. Additionally, she served on the Board of Adjustment for the town of Carrboro, North Carolina. She has served as a chairperson for the education board for the local NAACP.
